Elemental Reverie . Honouring Our Nature (1)
Elemental Reverie is a 3-part series where we will explore our connection to the Elements and Nature; and methods of deepening our bond with them. This is also an introduction to support people in connecting to Animist practices.
Time & Location
May 18, 2020, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
About The Event
Through this series, our focus will move from the connection within our bodies, through our immediate surroundings (living spaces), and into the outside world! Human beings are an inseparable part of nature. There is a web connecting all life and energy in the Universe (which we typically call “Nature”), where human beings are an equal and integral part. It can be easy to forget this connection on a mental level and even easier to overlook on a level of feeling. Within the current structure of society, it can be challenging to live in a state of honor or felt unity with Nature. This series was created to allow ourselves to rediscover that connection and develop our own unique habits or rituals that strengthen our bond to an experience of unity with nature.
In Elemental Reverie, we will gather in a safe and supportive space facilitated by Chauntell and Cody. Together, they will guide us in Journeys and meditations designed to help us to tune into the deep well of Inner Wisdom. In this space, we will be able to connect with Guides and Allies who can help us find unique rituals or habits that we can use to reveal and honor the inseparable bond we all share with Nature.
What is Animism?
*The following is our own personal understanding of Animism. We invite you to tune into your own experience and discover what Animism means to you*
Animism is the realization and acceptance that everything in existence has its own unique spirit or energy; Earth, Air, Water, Fire, trees, sky, ocean, animals and human beings. All natural phenomena and even so called “inanimate” objects are included in that - and they’re all aspects of the One Universal energy, Source, God (or whichever name you may use).
Through Animism, we can honour these spirits and energies and develop a more intimate, deep connection with them. Animist practices can support us in engaging in symbolic (and tangible) offerings and rituals that will deepen our relationship to these energies and also help us understand them in a more intimate way. These practices help us become more intuitive to the needs of the Earth and our communities as well as increasing the impact of our effectiveness in Life. This includes our own lives, the lives of those around us and the life of the planet itself.
What is Drum Journeying?
Drum Journeying is the practice of using the sound of rhythmic drumming to enter into an altered state of consciousness. In this altered state, we can access an inner space that has been referred to as Dream Space, the Spirit World, the Inner World etc. In this space, we have the ability to connect with our ancestry, nature and the deepest parts of our psyche. They may show up as archetypal imagery, feelings, sounds or spirit beings.
To participate in a Drum Journey, all you need is a comfortable and quiet space where you won't be disturbed and the sound of resonant and rhythmic drumming (We will drum for you so you don’t need a drum. You’ll get the best results with headphones but they aren’t mandatory). Being in darkness can be helpful - either with the lights off or using something to cover your eyes. Combine all of that with trust in yourself and a willingness to go deep then you have everything you need to have a great Drum Journey!
Hearing the rhythm of a heart beat is the first sensory experience we have as humans in the womb. The drum is like this heart beat. Drum journeys are used to help us tune into the realm of spirit and dreams. The rhythm of the drum changes our brain waves into a theta wave state. This particular frequency range is involved in daydreaming and sleep. Theta waves are connected to us experiencing and feeling deep and raw emotions. Theta waves can help improve our intuition, creativity, and makes us feel more connected to our natural self. It is also involved in restorative sleep.
- involved in daydreaming and sleep
- connected to us experiencing and feeling deep and raw emotions
- deeply relaxed, semi-hypnotic state
- intuition, creativity, and makes us feel more natural
